31 Schwerin Castle – nestled in the beautiful Schwerin lake landscape, it resembles a true fairytale castle. Once the seat of the dukes of Mecklenburg, it now houses the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the impressive castle museum. Schwerin Cathedral is the seat of the regional bishop of the Protestant church between the North Sea and the Baltic in the federal states of Hamburg, SchleswigHolstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. At 117.5 metres, the cathedral is one of the 30 tallest sacred buildings in the world. Schwerin‘s music and theatre history began more than 450 years ago. Today‘s Mecklenburg State Orchestra is the third oldest orchestra in Germany after Dresden and Kassel. With the Mecklenburg State Theatre and its Great House as part of the Schwerin Residence Ensemble, the region has a multi-part theatre which, with the Low German Fritz Reuter Stage, also has the only professional Low German ensemble in Germany besides the Ohnsorg Theatre in Hamburg.
