The majority of the companies are medium-sized enterprises,. important subsidiaries of international corporations are also located in the state, such as Dr. Oetker Tiefkühlprodukte GmbH in Wittenburg or Carl Kühne KG in Hagenow. In addition, in recent years there have regularly been further settlements and investments by companies in the food industry. These include in particular the construction of a plant for food additives by SternMaid GmbH in Wittenburg, the construction of an Edeka meat plant in Valluhn, the settlement of the confectionery manufacturers Toffee Tec GmbH and Sweet Tec GmbH in Boizenburg as well as Trolli in Hagenow or the Nescafé Dolce Gusto plant in Schwerin. Almost 15 per cent of all food and beverages from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are exported. More than 50 per cent of the state‘s industry turnover is generated in West Mecklenburg. Due to the long tradition of this economic sector in West Mecklenburg, there is also a large pool of skilled workers with specialist knowledge, skills and abilities that are closely linked to the industry and the region. In addition, the favourable logistical conditions, the well-developed research and education infrastructure and also the industry-specific networks and, last but not least, broad political support offer a decisive advantage.
