Together, both sectors have about 10,000 employees and an annual turnover of about 4.3 billion euros. The companies are characterised by a high level of innovative strength and distinctive competences in the areas of manufacturing, automation and process technology. 35 companies with more than 50 employees currently employ around 4,600 people and generated a total turnover of around 1.1 billion euros in the area of metal production and processing and the manufacture of metal products. Small and medium-sized companies account for the majority of employees and turnover. The global trend in the industry is towards sophisticated special machinery so that the state‘s mechanical engineering sector also has positive development opportunities in the long term due to its technological know-how.
