76 The West Mecklenburg region has an efficient, technology-oriented infrastructure and a number of interdisciplinary technology and competence centres that cooperate as an innovation network. Research and development in companies of all sizes, as well as the establishment of business and science networks, are specifically supported by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Chambers of Crafts and the state administration of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Co-operation between knowledge-intensive companies, business-related research institutions and universities generates innovative ideas for modern technologies. This collaborative research helps companies with their product or process innovations. Innovative products for the world market emerge from the networking between science and business in the region. According to the European Commission‘s “Regional Innovation Scoreboard”, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern now belongs to the group of so-called medium technology fields, placing it in the upper midfield in the innovation rankings of European regions.
